Meet Carmen

Carmen is 83 years old. She is a widow and lives alone. She has a daughter, María, who lives an hour away, and a son, Marc, who lives abroad. Both coordinate with professional caregivers who help their mother with her personal care and daily activities. With SOM Care, this coordination is easier, as everyone can access her health status from their computers and mobile phones and contact her with just one click.

Carmen, in turn, feels safer and better connected to her loved ones. This is what a typical day in her life with MAIA is like:

8:00 am – Start the day with peace of mind

In the morning, Carmen reviews the day’s reminders, including medication, medical appointments and social events, sent by her caregiver or scheduled herself, all at a glance.

2:30 pm - Daily health check

After lunch, MAIA notifies her to monitor her health: to take her blood pressure, temperature and blood glucose level. MAIA also asks Carmen if she has eaten and how she is feeling.

The healthcare professional accesses the SOM Care platform to monitor changes in the health status of Carmen and other chronic patients.

5:00 pm – Cognitive stimulation exercise

In the afternoon, MAIA suggests doing a cognitive stimulation exercise recommended by Carmen's caregiver.

Her caregiver accesses the CareGiver app to check Carmen's parameters and answers for the day and to schedule a video call for the next day.

8:00 pm - Family video call

Carmen’s daughter calls her via video call every day to ask her about her day and see her. She also accesses the CareGiver app to see if her mother has taken all her medication, how she has slept and more.

The Maia device is already transforming care for older people

600 Temi robots in private homes in Barcelona

In Europe’s largest social robotics project, the Barcelona City Council is working to improve the quality of life of the city’s older people by complementing home care with advanced telecare through SOM Care.

Digital monitoring of medication intake

Through a project promoted by IDAPA and i2CAT, the CAP La Seu d’Urgell primary care centre is optimising the remote monitoring of medication intake for older people living at home by enabling the area’s healthcare professionals to monitor intake in real time.

Suara Cooperativa care homes

SomCare social robots are a tool to support staff when accompanying and caring for the older people at the Colonia Güell care home in Santa Coloma de Cervelló (Baix Llobregat) and the Torreblanca care home in Sant Joan de las Fuentes (La Garrotxa), both of which are part of the Suara Cooperativa network.
